MICHAEL CRONIN was born August 1841 in Rosscarbery (Sunny Rock), Co. Cork, Ireland and died
July 24, 1875 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was the son of PATRICK CRONIN and
ELLEN DONOVAN. The family apparently moved out of the Rosscarbery area to
England at the time of the Great Famine. He married MARY O’BRIEN circa 1861,
probably in England. She was born circa 1843 in Co. Cork, Ireland and died
circa 1870 in New York, New York. They immigrated circa 1863 to New York, New
York and lived on Baxter Street, an area known as the "Five Points." Apparently, after Mary died, Michael and his three
children moved to Lynn, Massachusetts, but shortly thereafter Michael drowned at
Long Beach as a result of a heart attack. He apparently did not become a
naturalized U. S. citizen. He was a laborer. Michael and Mary had three
children (see below). The orphaned children were raised by his sister, MARY CRONIN. Mary Cronin operated a fruit business
in a Lynn central square with her husband, John Moloney. She was very popular
and well-known for her philanthropy toward the almshouse, children’s home, and day nursery.
