Daily Evening Item; December 20, 1923 John H. Hanley, aged 62, for more than 50 years a resident in this city, died this morning at his residence, 67 Adams street, after a month’s illness. The deceased was born in County Galway, Ireland, and came to Lynn when a young boy. He was a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen; the Lynn Lasters’ Aid association; and Lynn lodge, Loyal Order of Moose. Up to the time of his illness he was employed as a laster in Brophy Bros. factory. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Hanley; seven sons, Elmer, Arthur C., Francis, Robert, Joseph, and Leo Hanley, all of Lynn, and Henry A. Hanley of Salem, and a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Wall, of Lynn. Salem Evening News; August 28, 1950 Henry A. Hanley, husband of Catherine (Walsh) Hanley of 24 Dunlap Street, and son of the late John and Elizabeth (Tansey) Hanley, died at Salem hospital Sunday afternoon after a brief illness. Mr. Hanley was born in Salem and until his recent illness was employed in the shoe department at Amly’s. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. James Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank Davidson, Jr., of Beverly, and Mrs. Richard A. Osborn of Salem; two grandsons and one granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. James B. Wall of Lynn; and five brothers, John E., Arthur C., Robert T. and Leo Hanley of Lynn, and Joseph Hanley of Salem; several nephews and nieces and one aunt, Sister Emelianna Gertrude of the Monastery of the Visitation, Brooklyn, N. Y. The funeral will take place Wednesday morning at 8:15 from his late home, followed by a requiem high mass in St. James Church at 9 o’clock. Unknown Newspaper; May 6, 1974 John E. Hanley, 82, 428 Essex St., died today at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Jamaica Plain, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Kennedy) Hanley. He was born in Salem, son of the late John H. and Elizabeth J. (Tansey) Hanley, and had been a resident of Lynn for 75 years. He retired 17 years ago as a maintenance employee of the General Electric West Lynn Works, where he had worked for 18 years. Mr. Hanley was a World War I veteran, having served in France in the American Expeditionary Forces. He was a member of Lynn Barracks 323. He leaves two brothers, Arthur C. and Leo Hanley, and a sister Mrs. Elizabeth Wall, all of Lynn; two nieces and three nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. from the Garrett J. Wall Funeral Home, 103 Johnson St., with a funeral mass at 9 in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Daily Evening Item; April 27, 1976 Arthur C. Hanley, 79, 220 Lynnfield St, died Monday morning after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Harriet E. (Pierce) Hanley. Mr. Hanley was born in Salem on July 11, 1896, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Tansey) Hanley. He moved to Lynn as a boy and was a graduate of the former St Joseph’s Grammar School. He was employed as a machinist at the General Electric West Lynn works for 45 years, retiring in 1960. He was a Navy veteran of World War I, and a charter member of the William P. Connery Post 6, American Legion. He was also a member of St Pius V Church and its Holy Name Society, and a member of Local 201, International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers, AFL-CIO. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Arlene L. Woman of Lynn, and Mrs. Lorraine D. Acheson of Cincinnati; a brother Leo Hanley; and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Wall, both of Lynn; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the David J. Solimine Funeral Home, 444 Broadway, followed by a funeral mass in St Pius V Church at 9. Burial will be in St Mary’s Cemetery. Unknown newspaper; December 29, 1999 Elizabeth J. Wall, 102, formerly of Adams Street, Lynn, died Tuesday in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Lynn firefighter James Wall, who was the brother of the late M. Henry Wall, former mayor of Lynn. Born in Salem and educated in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Tansey) Hanley. She lived in Lynn for most of her life and was a long-time communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was past president of the Downing Chapter of the Lynn Fire Department Auxiliary, a charter member of the Third Order of St. Francis, and a member of the Wm. P. Connery Jr. Post 6 Auxiliary. She was the mother of the late Major Robert Wall. She leaves her daughter-in-law, Shirley E. Wall of Tavares, Florida; four grandchildren, Richard Wall of Alexandria, Va., Robert Wall of Oakton, Va., Leslie Daniels of Orlando, Fla., and Timothy Wall of Gainesville, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Leo Hanley. |
