Brady

PATRICK TANSEY was born circa April 1823 in Co. Roscommon, Ireland and died July 8, 1899, in Lynn, Massachusetts.  He was the son of MICHAEL TANSEY and BRIDGIT McNULTY.  He married SARAH BRADY February 16, 1854, in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland   She was the daughter of DENIS BRADY and CATHERINE MURREN.  She was born circa 1829, Co. Roscommon, Ireland and died August 25, 1887, in Salem, Massachusetts.  They immigrated June 2, 1879, aboard the S.S. City of Richmond to New York, New York.  They were accompanied by some of their children: Frank, Sarah, Lizzie, and Patrick.  Patrick became a naturalized U. S. citizen December 11, 1885, at the Superior Court Essex County, Salem, Massachusetts.  He worked in a shoe shop.  Patrick and Sarah had nine children (see below).

MARY ANNE TANSEY (SISTER MARY ANSELMO) was born April 1, 1855, in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland and died January 19, 1939, in New York, New York.  She immigrated to the United States circa 1877.  She was a nun with the Sisters of Charity and had teaching assignments at St. Mary’s Orphan Asylum in Jersey City, New Jersey, and Sacred Heart School in West New Brighton, Staten Island, New York, where she taught 3rd grade boys and girls from 1908 until 1929.  She was later assigned to St. Joseph’s Asylum in Brooklyn, New York.

DENIS TANSEY was born June 1, 1856, in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland and apparently died before 1887.  Reportedly, Denis studied for the priesthood and died shortly before being ordained.

MICHAEL TANSEY was born in 1858 in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland and apparently died after 1939.  His last known residence was Newark, New Jersey.

JOSEPH TANSEY was born January 29, 1860, in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland.  His last known residence was Texas.

BRIDGET (BEA) TANSEY was born circa August 1861 in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland and died September 17, 1924, in Salem, Massachusetts.  She married JOSEPH McKEEVER, son of alderman, William McKeever, on September 10, 1890.  He was a blacksmith. Surviving children of Bridget Tansey and Joseph McKeever were as follows:

FRANCIS (FRANK) H. TANSEY was born June 19, 1863, in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland and died May 19, 1925, in Salem, Massachusetts.  He became a naturalized U. S. citizen October 22, 1888, at the U.S. Circuit Court, Boston, Massachusetts.  He was a shoeworker.  He married ANNIE M. MORAN July 28, 1890.  Surviving children of Francis Tansey and Annie Moran were as follows:

S.  Navy ® Secretary at Ford Motor Company in Somerville, Massachusetts ® Died in Reading, Massachusetts

SARAH KATE TANSEY was born April 28, 1866, in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, and died September 1, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York.  She immigrated to the United States in 1880.  She was a nun with the Monastery of the Visitation of Holy Mary in Brooklyn, New York for 58 years.  She taught elocution and religion.

ELIZABETH J. TANSEY was born February 6, 1868, in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland and died July 19, 1947, in Lynn, Massachusetts.  She married JOHN H. HANLEY.   See John H. Hanley

PATRICK IGNATIUS TANSEY was born December 15, 1869, in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, and died August 30, 1948, in Middleton, Massachusetts.  He was a Spanish-American War veteran, serving with Company H of the 8th Massachusetts Infantry.  He married MARGARET B. MORAN June 3, 1903, in Salem, Massachusetts.  He worked at the General Electric Company.  The child of Patrick Tansey and Margaret Moran was as follows:

CATHERINE TANSEY (SISTER MARY EMILIANNA) , a sister of Patrick Tansey, was born in 1829 in Co. Roscommon, Ireland, and died October 14, 1894, in Brooklyn, New York.  She was a nun with the Sisters of Charity and founder of St. Mary’s Female Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.  Later, she was co-founder and first Sister-in-Charge (Superior and Administrator) of St. Mary’s Hospital, Brooklyn, New York.
